ADVENTURE LIKE A LOCAL: Fairbanks Aurora
Looking for a new adventure or visiting and just want ideas on where resident Alaskas go for adventure? Check out this trip from Boardroom member Angus!
The highlights:
Location: Fairbanks, AK
Time of Year: February-March
Duration: 2 day trip
Want to find a great view of the Aurora Borealis? Fairbanks is where you should be!
The full trip:
Fairbanks is an ideal location for seeing northern lights. Book one of the public use cabins in the Chena River State Recreation Area and hope for clear skies! Chena Hot Springs Resort is a relatively short drive up the road from the cabins, too.
Bonus points if you can time your trip to coincide with the World Ice Carving Championships in February-March, I recommend going after dark when the sculptures are lit.
Also check out:
The Museum of the North on the UAF campus
enjoy a pint at Black Spruce or Lat. 65 Brewing
grab a bite at one of the many excellent Thai restaurants.
Recommendations: bring firewood!
